Bob Cecere, Principal of The Cecere Group

Bob has more than 30 years’ experience in the investment management industry. He is a CPA by training with an advanced degree in taxation. Bob brings a deep operational presence with a seasoned buy-side business acumen along with a strong focus on process, procedures, and controls.

Bob began his career in public accounting where he specialized in financial statement audits of registered investment companies. He joined Putnam Investments as Assistant Vice President with primary responsibility over fund accounting and nightly NAV fund pricing. While at Putnam, Bob was responsible for tax and accounting matters for a complex range of fixed income mutual funds utilizing option and derivative strategies. He later joined John Hancock Mutual Funds as Comptroller of Mutual Funds where he was responsible for oversight of nightly NAV fund pricing, which had been outsourced to the funds’ custodian banks, as well as IRS and SEC compliance. During his tenure at John Hancock, Bob also served as Assistant Corporate Controller with responsibilities for budgeting, corporate planning, and mutual fund board reporting, which allowed him to gain first-hand experience and exposure to the business aspects of the fund industry.

In 1994, Bob joined Baring Asset Management as corporate treasurer and was later appointed Chief Financial Officer, North America, with responsibility for all financial, accounting, and tax matters for North America. Bob assumed responsibility for portfolio operations of the US equity investment team and was subsequently appointed Chief Operating Officer, North America and a member of the Board of Directors in 2002. As CFO, COO, and a board member, his focus has been financial control, investment operations, and client service matters in support of Barings’ North American client base with particular emphasis on oversight of outsourced fund administration services for Barings’ range of private institutional commingled funds.

Bob received his undergraduate degree in accounting from Babson College and a Master of Science in Taxation with high distinction (Summa cum Laude) from Bentley University.
